Old Towne Orange
Located in the city center of Orange,
the Old Town Plaza is at the heart of
the city's antique and historic center.
It is also referred to by OC locals as
“The Orange Circle”. ORANGE PLAZA
ESTABLISHED IN 1886, THE PLAZA WAS FOR
MANY YEARS THE SOCIAL AND COMMERCIAL HUB
OF ORANGE. THE PLAZA HISTORIC DISTRICT
ATTAINED SIGNIFICANCE THROUGHOUT THE
STATE AS A HISTORIC LANDMARK IN 1981 AND
WAS PLACED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF
HISTORIC PLACES ON MARCH 19, 1982.
Orange is unusual in that many of the
homes in its Old Town District were
built prior to 1920; whereas many other
cities in the region demolished such
houses in the 1960s, Orange decided to
The traffic circle is the focal point of
the Orange Plaza Historic District. The
centerpiece of the circle is a lighted
water fountain. Towering trees providing
shade, areas of grass, rosebushes, and
park benches help to make this a very
enjoyable place to sit and relax while
taking in the scenery.
The plaza is the site of many of the
city's annual events, including the
lighting of the Christmas tree, Orange
International Street Fair on Labor Day
Weekend, classic car shows, and more.
